It is very important for Blue Sapphires to be eye flawless and not heated. Some of the best Natural Blue Sapphires come from Sri Lanka. Blue Sapphires: The most famous of the sapphire colors, the beauty of a blue sapphire is unparalleled. Each sapphire's hue is individual and nuanced; no two are alike.

There is a large range of color from pale, grayish blue to deep pure blue, with slight violet secondary. The best range is a light to medium, fine'cornflower' blue which is not too dark. This magnificent Sapphire falls in that category.

Here we have an exceptional example of a blue sapphire mined in Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon), which is known to produce sapphires with a very pleasing, lighter blue. The stone is natural, with no indications of heat treatment to enhance its outstanding vivid color.

It is certified by GIA (Gemological Institute of America) which is a very rare find. At 10.51 carats, its a substantial stone, and with an oval shape it's perfect for a this diamond ring setting. A modified -brilliant-cut crown with gorgeous facets and a step-cut pavilion guarantee a spectacular sparkle. Sri Lankas gem industry has a very long and colorful history. Sri Lanka was affectionately known as Ratna-Dweepa which means Gem Island.

The name is a reflection of its natural wealth. Marco Polo wrote that the island had the best sapphires, topazes, amethysts, and other gems in the world. Geologically speaking is an extremely old country. Ninety percent of the rocks of the island are of Precambrian age, 560 million to 2,400 million years ago.

The metamorphic types of gems constitute 90% of the gem deposits in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has the highest density of gem deposits compared to its landmass. Ratnapura contains the most gem deposits and derived its name from the gem industry. Ratnapura means city of gems. What Does Natural & Untreated Mean?

The word natural identifies a sapphire crystal that has been developed in the ground, not synthetically created or treated in a lab. The word Untreated means that a sapphire has not undergone any heat or chemical treatments to improve its color or clarity.

Today, nearly all sapphire stones and jewelry from online sources and in stores are described as natural if it isnt a synthetic that is lab created. Dont be misled, these natural stones may come straight from the ground but their color and clarity are often results of chemical procedures or heat treatments. The color and clarity of these treated stones are often created through a heating process. During this high heat treatment, additives such as glass and coloring agents can be included to fill natural cavities and cracks in the sapphires. The coloring agents are then diffused throughout the crystal, completely altering the stones original color.
